Considering YTD sales up to april 2026, Toyota was still the best selling brand. Despite losing 3.4% year-on-year, the Japanese giant retained its decade-long leadership in the market, securing a 10.9% share of all global sales.
Volkswagen ranked in 2nd, losing 10.3% and with a 5.2% share of the global market.
Hyundai -up 1 spot- ranked 3rd, achieving a share of 4.5% despite losing 0.3%.
Ford -down 1 spot- ranked 4th while securing a 4.3% share (-9.3%), followed by Honda in 5th with a 3.9% share (-8.9%) and Kia -up 2 spots- in 6th (+1.1%).
Nissan ranked in 7th (-3.5%), followed by Chevrolet -up 1 spot- in 8th (-4.1%), and BYD -down 3 spots- in 9th (+30.3%). Maruti -up 3 spots- closed the Top 10 (+10.5%).
EV Market Trend and Outlook
EV sales worldwide struggles in 2026 as segment’s giants are impacted by saturation in China’s domestic market. In particular, YTD sales up to april dropped by 5.3%.
BYD remained the leader holding a 16.3% share, despite slowing down and dropping by 30.3%.
Tesla managed to bounce back, ranking in 2nd with a 11.4% share (+4.5%).
Geely also reported losses, down by 36.2% in 3rd to a 5.1% share, followed by Leap Motor (+36.3%) with 4.1% and Xiaomi (+12.6%) with 3%.
