Best Selling Auto Brands Ranking in 2026. Downturn of the automotive sector eroded brands’ margins, with only Hyundai reporting significant gains (+2.1%). EV giants BYD and Geely dipped, affected by contraction in their homecountry.
Sourcing local Minister of Transportation or deputy agencies, we collect new light vehicles registrations, country by country, brand by brand, in 159 markets worldwide. Extracting data for our Global Auto Database we are able to report on this ranking as several others.
Considering YTD sales up to february 2026, Toyota was still the best selling brand. Despite losing 3% year-on-year, the Japanese giant retained its decade-long leadership in the market, securing an 11.5% share of all global sales.
Volkswagen ranked in 2nd, losing 8.4% and with a 5.7% share of the global market.
Hyundai -up 1 spot- ranked 3rd, achieving a share of 4.7% while gaining 2.1%.
Ford -down 1 spot- ranked 4th while securing a 4.3% share (-7.5%), followed by Honda in 5th with a 4.2% share (-5%) and Kia -up 1 spot- in 6th (-0.8%).
Nissan -down 1 spot- ranked in 7th (-12.7%), followed by Chevrolet in 8th (-8.7%), and Maruti -up 2 spots- in 9th (+0.5%). BMW -up 2 spots- closed the Top 10 (+0.5%).
Notably, Geely and BYD dropped out of the top 10, losing 14.6% and 43.6% respectively.
EV Market Trend and Outlook
EV sales worldwide struggles in 2026 as segment’s giants are impacted by saturation in China’s domestic market. In particular, YTD sales up to february dropped by 17%.
BYD remained the leader holding a 15% share, despite slowing down and dropping 45.6%.
Tesla managed to bounce back, ranking in 2nd with a 12.3% share (-0.1%).
Geely also reported losses, down by 45.4% in 3rd, followed by Huawei (+17.3%) and Xiaomi (+27.5%).
